Photocopy of letter
Scope and Contents
This letter is replaced by a photocopy. The original letter is in series IX-63, box 1, folder 20: "You have been apprised of the circumstances which prevented me from having the pleasure of visiting my friends in New Philadelphia before the 4th of July as was my intention. I would have written you from Napoleon to inform you that I would not leave this part of the state without paying you my respects in person but having kept up until very late on the night of the 4th & setting out very early for this place on the succeeding morning I was unable to do so. Being so near to Steubenville I find myself obliged to redeem a promise long since made to visit that place whenever I had an opportunity of doing it. I shall accordingly go there on Monday & from thence to Lisbon to fulfil a similar promise. From the latter place I shall go to Ravenna & from thence I will write to inform you when I shall be able to reach New Philadelphia."
