Letter from Lyman Gage (Washington, D.C.) to Joseph Medill, 1897-11-13

 File — Box: 6, Folder: C133B

Scope and Contents

Thanking Medill for his reply to Gage's letter of 1897-11-03, and discussing the matter still further. "We are both substantially agreed, I think, that the obligation of the government to maintain our silver at a parity with our gold is just as binding as to maintain current redemption of greenbacks in gold and we agree that if the greenbacks were all retired, the silver and silver certificates would still be a problem and a burden to the national treasury."
