Biographical / Historical

Edoardo Sanguineti (1930-2010) was born in Geonoa, Italy. Study for his Ph.D. at the University of Turin included a thesis on Dante which was published as Interpretazione di Malebolge (1961). He taught at various Italian universities, including those in Turin and Salerno, and published poetry, novels, opera libretti, and critical essays on Dante, twentieth-century authors and literary movements. As a member of the Italian avant-garde movement, he belonged to “Gruppo ‘63” and “i novissimi.” He also served as a representative in the Italian Parliament from 1979 to 1983. His political consciousness is revealed in his writing as much as his poetic surrealism. Northwestern University Library holds many of his published works, and titles and call numbers can be found in the online catalog.
