Collection consists of writings, drawings, and photos related to the surgical practice of Weller Van Hook (1862-1933), Chair of Surgery at Northwestern University Medical School,1896-1908. Includes typescript and manuscript copies of articles, mainly on abdominal surgery and correcting inguinal hernias, with corrections and notes; drawings of surgical procedures made by unknown artists (some possibly by Van Hook, others are signed F.W.B.); some photographs of patients and procedures; printed illustrations of anatomy and surgical procedures cut or copied from books; Van Hook's drawing notebook dated Feb. 11, 1916; packets of typed and handwritten notes tied together; and a notebook of Van Hook's surgical lectures kept by medical student Winfield Scott Harpole from 1895-96.
