Content Description
Papers related to the education and career of John H. Long, PhD (1856-1918), Professor of Chemistry at Northwestern University Medical School from 1881 until his death in 1918, and Dean of the Northwestern University School of Pharmacy from 1913 to 1917. Includes diplomas from the University of Wrocław (1878) and the University of Tübingen (1879); Long's doctoral thesis from Tübingen, "On the Diffusion of Liquids;" an 1880 letter in German from chemist Lothar Meyer, who developed an early version of the periodic table of elements; and an undated manual written by Long for Northwestern students, "Practical Notes on Urine Analysis." Also includes a newspaper clipping (possibly from the New York Times) about Harvard University and the handbook "The Technic of the Chicago Lying-In Hospital and Dispensary" from 1921.
