Biography

Carolyn Armenta Davis, a Chicago communications specialist, created, wrote, and produced the radio series, Black Classical Composers and Feminine Footprints.

Black Classical Composers was a year and a half program airing hour long episodes approximately bi-monthly from June 1976 to December 1977 on WEFM Chicago (now WUSN). Each of the thirty episodes focused on one or several Black classical composers and featured a combination of Davis’ research in the form of voiceovers and music by the composers.

Feminine Footprints aired for 13-week starting on March 6, 1978, and consisted of 65 one-minute vignettes dedicated to highlighting outstanding Black women’s achievements. Feminine Footprints was broadcasted to forty radio stations across the United States that were affiliated with the Mutual Black Network. In June 1978, Davis and Feminine Footprints were awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the American Women in Radio and Television, Inc. for the “improvement and enhancements of the image of women.”*
