General

This piece depicts some tricks of a small animal in a Ghanaian forest, which deceived hunters by covering itself with dead leaves when chased. It did this with its thin legs that pierced through dead leaves as it ran along. When sufficient leaves had been collected it quickly laid down on its back to take cover by pointing the legs on which the leaves were stuck, into the air. After many years, the hunters got to know the trick, and, therefore, decided to shoot their arrows anywhere into the leaves, in case they would hit their target. These arrows are represented by the small sticks beneath the animal. The black sticks at the bottom symbolize the firewood that would be used to cook the animal if it were captured.
