General
Sisal is a dry weather plant, very cactus-like. It is grown on large estates which in many cases are owned by Greeks. Sisal is used to make rope products. It takes about three years after planting before any of the leaves can be cut. The plant reaches full maturity after approximately ten years. It is then replanted. This photo is of the base of the plant, with leaves sprouting out.
