General

This slide shows a small hearth or forge on which the worker heats the metal to be used to make the ornament. On this he will melt aluminum from discarded cooking pots, called 'sureria,' which he has obtained. Dried cow dung used in this forge produces a very hot fire when it is mixed with grass. When the aluminum is melted, it is poured onto the ground to make a flat bar of the metal.
