General

The costumes worn by the men outside the shop are from the area but are not everyday dress. The Fezzan is the name given to the southwestern region of Libya. There is no rainfall in the area so that wells and springs provide all the water for its chain of oases which support 60,000 people. Dates are the major crop. The Fezzan's main importance is that the major route from the coast south to central Africa passes through it. This route has been used for centuries.
