Clinton Lee Compere (1911-1991) Papers
Abstract
Clinton Lee Compere was a professor of orthopedic surgery at Northwestern's Medical School and, as a founding member of Northwestern's Rehabilitation Engineering Program (REP), nationally recognized as an authority on rehabilitation engineering. His main focus was the improvement of prosthetic devices for the physically handicapped. Compere participated actively in the development of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) to one of the best rehabilitation hospitals in the country. The Clinton Compere papers include 11 boxes, spans the years from 1954 through 1991, and contains biographical materials, correspondence, grant and funding proposals, minutes and reports mainly of various committees and meetings, and publications by Compere and others.

Departmental files (three boxes) span the years 1956 to 1975.This subseries contains mainly administrative and budget materials, film and building projects, patient reports, personnel files, research contracts, residency appointments, as well as bylaws and course notes and schedules. Folders are arranged in alphabetical order according to topical headings.
Funds and grants files (two boxes) span the years from 1961 through 1975, and include proposals and applications for project, research, and demonstration grants, and fundraising. Folders are arranged in alphabetical order according to topical headings.
Minutes and reports (three boxes) span the years from 1961 through 1975. This subseries contains annual and progress reports, and minutes of board and committee meetings. Folders are arranged in alphabetical order according to topical headings.
The publications subseries (one box) contains articles, bulletins, annals, and brochures of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and its programs from the years 1954 to 1980. Folders are arranged in alphabetical order according to topical headings.
